LGMC Going Smoke Free Effective 10/1

In ongoing efforts to improve the health of our patients, visitors and employees, Lafayette General has made the commitment to have a completely smoke free campus, effective this coming October 1.

Plans are already underway to make this transition as easy as possible for smokers. In the months to come we will provide employees, patients, [and their visitors] education programs to help in the efforts to quit smoking.

 

Home Health Receives Platinum Quality Award


Home Health Award

Home Health of Lafayette General for receiving a Platinum Louisiana Home Health Agency Quality Award for 2008, presented by Louisiana Health Care Review, Inc. (LHCR), the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Louisiana. LHCR Home Health Quality Awards are given for excellent performance and improvement in acute care hospitalizations and other outcomes. LGMC Home Health is one of only five agencies in the State to receive the Platinum Award, the highest level.

Mary Couvillon, RN, Clinical Supervisor for the Pediatric areas and Helen Hurstm RN, PhD were recently recognized by District IV of the Louisiana State Nurses as one of the Top 25 Nurses in the Acadiana region. They were honored at the annual " Acadiana Celebrates Nursing" awards banquet in May.

LGMC hosted a workshop presented by The Louisiana Maternal and Child Health Coalition and the Louisiana Office of Public Health-Maternal and Child Health. The topic presented was “Supporting Evidence-Based Breastfeeding Practices in Louisiana: THE GIFT. LGMC is one of the nine GIFT certified hospitals in the state, and continues to meet the required “Ten Steps to a Healthy Breastfed Baby" criteria. Critical care nurses

The American Association of Critical Care Nurses recently held their National Teaching Institute conference in New Orleans. Over 5,000 nurses attended from throughout the U.S. and internationally. Leaders from the local chapters of the NTI gathered beforehand, where some of our own LGMC employees represented the Heart of Acadiana Chapter.
