Lafayette General Voted 'Best Hospital' and 'Best ER'
For the sixth year in a row, LGMC was voted 'Best Hospital' by the readers of the Times of Acadiana. In addition, the ER was recognized by voters as well.  
New Oncology Care Course
LGMC is offering a FREE course dealing with “Caring for Cancer Patients." This comprehensive course, offered to novice and experienced RN's, teaches didactic and clinical instruction—from an overview of basic nursing to chemotherapy administration. Nurses can begin at any time while working on the unit. Additionally, completion of the course earns them 45 contact hours. For more information, call Ginger Broussard at ext. 7792.

Caroline Stegeman, 4th floor manager, was nominated for the 2007 Nightingale Award, sponsored by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation. It promotes a professional nurse who strives for quality and excellence in serving the health care community.

Geronna Leonards, RN, ER charge nurse, won a paid trip to the Emergency Nurses Association Leadership Conference in Boston. The award salutes nurses with a “Today's the Day" attitude. Leonards impressed the selection committee with a letter outlining the impact the two hurricanes of 2005 had on our emergency department, and how the knowledge gained from the seminar could impact patient care.

Sixth and seventh floors held a crawfish boil in April. Managers wanted to encourage camaraderie and communication among staff, so both floors could work together for a common outcome.
